Mistakes To Avoid While Installing/ Repairing Garage Doors

Garage doors are quite heavy, and they protect your vehicles from external dust, dirt and burglar attacks. Therefore, you need to install them carefully in the most professional way. Yes, garage door installation is a costly process. Getting professional assistance and support could involve a lot of money. Making it a DIY project is the only way to cut down costs in this process. However, ensure that you have enough experience in this before you indulge in this activity. Making a slight mistake here can misalign the entire setup of your doors, turning it into a very costly process for you. Here are some of the common mistakes that people usually commit while installing/repairing their garage doors.

1. Complacency

Is your garage door not opening or closing smoothly as it usually does? It should ring an alarm bell in your mind that it could be a problem with the tracks or springs. More often than not, people exert pressure and try to open/close the doors with great force, and they ignore the problem as long as this method is working fine. When the method doesn’t work anymore, they call an expert only to find out that a small crack in the tracks had grown into a big problem and caused misalignment issues. When you don’t spot these small problems earlier on, you have to cough up huge costs towards correcting the mess that you have allowed them to grow into. Clean the metal tracks in your garage frequently so that they are free of dust and debris; this will ensure that your doors move smoothly.

2. Nails or screws?

One of the major causes of garage gate repair is the bending or breaking of nails. Many people feel that screws are costly and instead use nails for attaching the doors to the tracks or frames. While nails do save you a great deal of money initially, they give away too easily due to the weight of the doors and bend/break soon. This is where having a big picture mindset would help you immensely. Do you want to save a few dollars on opting for nails instead of screws and end up burning a deep hole in your pocket later on when these nails give away too soon, causing excessive damage to your doors?

3. Driving while the garage door is in movement

Overhead door repair issues also occur mostly because of our impatience. How many of us are driving into or from our garage when the doors are still moving? In a bid to leave or enter in a hurry, we don’t pay attention to the fact that we are causing excessive damage to the doors due to friction from our vehicles. These doors are quite heavy, so when they get hit by our vehicles, the impact is quite huge and involves huge costs to repair. The only solution to get rid of this problem is to wait patiently until the doors have completely rolled up and then enter into our garage. Exercising two minutes of patience can save huge costs for us in the long run.
